Due to any reason it is advisable to notify the immigration bureau within 14 days.
If fail to do so, it can effect in getting future visa.

Those who are visiting his country must return to japan within 1 year of their departure , failing to do so will lose their resident status.

A new immigration system will be start from 2012 July.(permanent residence)

Under the new system the period of stay will be extended from 3 to 5 years
I think it will be better to apply now because after the new system begins ,there is a possibility that 5 years valid visa will be required to apply for permanent resident.
( the immigration department is in the process of new guidelines now)

From this month foreigners will receive the Jyuminhyo draft paper from city office.
alien card registration Certificate will no longer be valid from July 2012.
Please, verify that you do not have the wrong name, date of birth, address etc.
There is no fee for applying this Jyuminhyo.
